The Lost Dutchman District was formed by Grand Canyon Council of the Boy Scouts of America to better coordinate unit creation and coordination, and reduce the number of districts from 21 to 12. The Lost Dutchman District consists of units that were part of Mesa, Gila, Superstition, San Tan, and Desert Wells districts.  The district was formed when district officers were elected by the district voting members and approved by Grand Canyon Council in April 2018.

The district supports Cub Scout, Scouts BSA, and Venturing units in its assigned area.  Support includes new unit start-up, and ongoing programs, events, and training for new and existing units and unit leaders.

In addition to monthly Roundtables, training is offered several times a year at the district and council level.  Although Scouting is a year-round program, the district does not hold Roundtable meetings in June or July.
